The company currently have a PAN India reach across 17,000 plus pin codes in India, which is contributing to almost 80% of their mobile business. They also have 96 brick and mortar offline retail outlets across the country.

OnlyMobiles key differentiators that sets it apart from their contemporaries in the ecommerce space include non-predatory pricing policies, wide reach via a network of ware houses and call centres, genuine and company authenticated products and a unique 30-day price protection policy for consumers. The ecommerce venture sources all its products directly from the major brands and retails the same to consumers at affordable price points.

The inspiration behind OnlyMobile was that – frequent fluctuations in gadget prices was a huge area of concern for consumers and this is the space where the online retailer chose to intervene. The company realized quite early that customer loyalty is very much difficult to achieve especially in Mobile Phones retailing business where there is not much value addition from the retailer side. A price consistency and stability in this increasingly volatile marketplace will go a long way in retaining existing customers and attracting new ones.

OnlyMobile aims to become the most favored destination for gadgets purchase having an OmniChannel presence. The company is presently targeting to foray into 300 towns in India and have also tied up with logistics partner Delhivery to set up warehouses across India. After setting up a facility in Chennai in the coming months, it will look at setting up two more ware houses by March 2017.

Koch Agrees to Invest over $2 billion in Infor

Provides Growth Capital for Cloud Software Leader to Drive Digital Transformation across Industries

MUMBAI, India – Nov. 17, 2016 – Infor, a leading provider of business applications specialized by industry and built for the cloud, today announced it has reached a definitive agreement in which Koch Equity Development LLC (“KED”), the investment and acquisition subsidiary of Koch Industries, Inc., has agreed to make an investment of more than $2 billion in the company.  The investment will provide Infor access to additional growth capital to accelerate innovation, expand distribution, and continue disrupting the enterprise applications industry.

KED’s investment is strong validation of Infor’s strategy and growth – a journey fueled by product investment, innovation, and an entrepreneurial culture. Koch Industries is an American multinational corporation that employs 100,000 people globally and is estimated by Forbes to be the second largest privately-held company in the United States with annual revenue of approximately $100 billion. The investment by KED significantly strengthens Infor’s capital base and provides an entrĂ©e into a large ecosystem of businesses contemplating digital transformation.

Infor became the first company to move mission critical industry applications to the cloud, and now counts more than 66 million users of its cloud applications. The company’s double digit revenue growth in its most recent quarter was fueled by a 130% annual increase in SaaS revenue; more than half of Infor’s software revenues are now derived from cloud applications.

Infor’s unique cloud strategy uses Amazon Web Services, enabling the company to invest in deep industry functionality with capital that would otherwise be needed to maintain its own data center infrastructure. Infor’s broad set of applications running on a hyper-scale cloud with cutting-edge data science and design provide a foundation for modernizing companies in healthcare, fashion, retail, distribution, public sector, and discrete and process manufacturing.

The Infor management team is headed by Chief Executive Officer Charles Phillips, who is leading the company into a new phase of growth, investment, and innovation.

“Koch is one of the largest private companies in the world with diversified holdings and immense resources to support the next exciting phase of growth at Infor and we are thrilled to have their support,” said Charles Phillips, CEO of Infor.  “Some of the largest companies in the world have approached Infor looking for a modern alternative to the legacy options available for mission critical business applications.  Infor has the scale and capital to provide a digital platform for the Global 5000.”

Under Phillips’ leadership, Infor invested approximately $2 billion in product design and development over the last five years and delivered more than 400 new products, 1,700 integrations, and 16,000 industry features in its CloudSuite product line. Infor now has 15,000 employees and operates in more than 170 countries. Key milestones include:

  • First Industry Cloud Company – By building deep industry features directly into its applications instead of leaving that critical content to third party consultants, Infor became the first company to run mission critical applications in the cloud for healthcare, manufacturing, retail, and public sector organizations. Companies no longer want the expensive consulting engagements that were historically required to add industry enhancements to generic software products.

By putting thousands of micro-vertical industry features into the applications, all customers in that specific industry can share those features in a multitenant cloud environment.  Applications rich in industry domain lower the cost and time of deployment and make future enhancements and upgrades far easier.  By enabling mission critical processes to be managed and integrated with applications for CRM, HCM, Marketing, and more in the cloud, Infor delivers a

complete CloudSuite for its target industries, which has led to significant growth and larger deal sizes.

  • Dynamic Science Labs – Just off the campus of M.I.T. in Kendall Square, Infor built a data science team with more than 70 PhDs and former professors to deliver predictive analytics, machine learning, and optimization for use-cases specific to select industries.  Recent innovations around retail assortments, inventory optimization, and pricing segmentation were made possible because of Infor Dynamic Science Labs and access to data on a hyper-scale cloud with unlimited compute power.

  • Creative Agency – Infor was the first enterprise applications company to build a captive creative agency in New York. The agency, dubbed Hook & Loop, focuses on user experience and design, a historical weakness for enterprise applications.  By leveraging the vast pool of design talent in Manhattan, Hook & Loop has re-defined user experience in the business application category. Infor recently launched H&L Digital, customer-facing consultancy for digital transformation projects.

  • Global Commerce Network – Infor ION, a next generation middleware platform that is far simpler and more open than traditional middleware, leverages the open source Apache ESB and a simple XML-based publish-and-subscribe model using OAGIS standards. The ability to quickly integrate Infor and non-Infor applications led to ION becoming one of Infor’s fastest growing products ever.

Infor is the only business applications provider with a direct commerce network. The company’s GT Nexus network connects over 28,000 businesses, banks, logistics providers, brokers, and carriers to process transactions and enable collaboration and visibility among these trading partners.

Leadership Quotes
“Over the last 15 years, Infor has grown from a small company to one of the most significant enterprise software companies in the world and it’s been an amazing thing to be a part of,” said Infor Board member Jim Schaper.

“The support we are providing to Infor marks one of the largest investments KED has ever made and demonstrates the confidence we have in Infor’s technology, team and business model,” said Matt Flamini, KED’s President.

“Infor’s demonstrated capability to help companies across a wide spectrum of industries automate and improve efficiency is relevant to our broad portfolio of invested companies and we look forward to exploring co-innovation opportunities,” said Brett Watson, Senior Managing Director of KED.

“We are extremely pleased with the progress the Infor team has made in scaling and executing into the massive opportunity in enterprise technology applications,” said David Dominik, Managing Director of Golden Gate Capital, which made its first investment in Infor in 2002. “KED’s investment is a tremendous endorsement and we look forward to working together with them and supporting management as they continue delivering industry-leading software applications to a growing list of world class customers.”

“We remain a meaningful investor in Infor and will continue to support the company in the years ahead,” said Rishi Chandna, Managing Director at Golden Gate Capital.

Transaction Overview
This transaction, which is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, is expected to close in early 2017.  The KED investment will be a combination of preferred and common equity.
Infor’s existing shareholders, including Golden Gate Capital, Summit Partners, and Management will maintain control of the company.  KED will have the right to appoint four of nine directors on the board of Infor’s parent company.

Morgan Stanley and Bank of America Merrill Lynch are serving as Infor’s lead financial advisors, and Gibson Dunn is serving as outside legal counsel.  Credit Suisse also provided financial advice to the company.  Kirkland & Ellis LLP is serving as outside legal advisor to Golden Gate and Summit Partners.  Rothschild, Inc. is serving as exclusive financial advisor to KED, and Jones Day is serving as outside legal counsel.

Increasing incidence of aggressive cancers in Indian women a major concern

  • Incidence of triple negative breast cancer increasing
  • Almost half of the breast cancer deaths in India preventable
New Delhi, 18th November 2016: As we observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month, oncologists in the capital have expressed concern that not only is breast cancer incidence increasing in the country, but cases of more aggressive cancers that are difficult to treat are also on the rise.
Doctors say it is important to underline that breast cancer is today the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Indian women.
“As compared to 10 years back, the numbers of patients reporting breast cancer has increased, their median age has decreased and the incidence of more aggressive cancers, especially triple negative breast cancer has also increased. The shifting epidemiology of breast cancer in India raises the need for more research to determine the causes and risk factors typical to Indian population. Currently Indian research is focusing on triple-negative breast cancer, breast cancers in younger women and in those with familial history,” says Prof (Dr.) P K JULKA Director, Max Oncology Day Care, Lajpat Nagar.
Triple-negative breast cancer refers to the breast cancer that does not express the genes for estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor (PR) or Her2/neu. This means that it is not driven by any of these factors and hence does not respond to treatment targeting these. Since chemotherapy usually target one of these three receptors, triple negative breast cancer is much more difficult to treat.
“We have seen a rise in number of patients reporting this type of cancer (triple negative). More often than not relatively younger women (those under 50 years of age), are diagnosed with more aggressive cancers. It is disheartening to note here that the survival rates for younger women are actually lower than older women because the former tend to have more aggressive cancers that grow rapidly, are more invasive and have poor prognosis,” adds Dr Julka.
In a number of cases, patients who report such aggressive and invasive cancers have a mutation in BRCA 1/BRCA 2 genes. These genes in normal cells have a tumor suppressing ability; however, when in people who carry a mutation in these genes, risk of breast and ovarian cancers is significantly high.
“People who have more than one cancer patients in their families are recommended to undergo a genetic test for gene mutation. Knowing whether they carry a mutation or not helps them be better prepared to deal with the disease. It is important to note here that Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie underwent preventive mastectomy because genetic testing revealed she had a high risk of breast and ovarian cancers,” says Dr Julka, a recipient of Padma Shri.
The factors responsible for rising breast cancer incidence in India include adoption of western lifestyles involving excessive smoking, drinking, and sedentary habits; delayed age of marriages and child birth for women; late age of first term pregnancy or no pregnancy (nulliparity); reduced durations of breast feeding or no breast feeding as well as late menopause.
Shift in reproductive behaviours is associated with increasing risk of breast cancer. Pregnancies and breast feeding are mitigating factors as they reduce the risk of breast cancer. More number of pregnancies, longer duration of breast feeding are breast friendly factors. Similarly, physical inactivity, obesity and sedentary lifestyles are other major causes of increasing breast cancer incidence.
The good news is that survival rates have improved in recent years due to the availability of highly improved therapies and treatment protocols and adoption of a multi-disciplinary approach to treatment has helped a lot. Today, it is possible to successfully prolong the life of a patient using a multi-dimensional approach to treatment, especially if the disease is diagnoses in stage 1 or stage 2.
“According to American Cancer Society, there are around 2.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. In fact the survival rates in developed countries such as the US, Japan and Sweden are more than 80%. In western countries, regular screening programs have succeeded in early identification and treatment of a large number of women. However, late diagnosis remains a major challenge in India and survival rates here are among the lowest in the world. More than 60% of patients are diagnosed in stage 3 or 4, by when the cancer has spread to more than the immediately affected region,” points Dr Julka.
Most patients who are suffering from highly treatable cancers also lose out the battle because of late detection. Absence of a community based screening program in India puts the onus on individuals. Unfortunately, the number of cases will further increase in the coming years because of a series of lifestyle factors discussed above.
Breast cancer can be defeated by staying alert
Almost half of the breast cancer deaths in India can be preventable if the disease is presented on time. Regular screening not only saves lives by diagnosing the disease at an early stage, but also allows doctors to undertake less toxic and less disfiguring treatments:
  • Monthly self examination starting at 25 years of age: Once in a month after completion of menstrual bleeding, it is recommended that you conduct a self examination to rule out any lump, or change in shape of your breast area.
  • Clinical breast examination is recommended every 3 years after one turns 25
  • Clinical Breast Examination with mammography yearly after the age of 40 years.
  • Undergo genetic testing for BRCA 1/BRCA 2 genes if more than one family member has been diagnosed with cancer. This will help you know your risk

Viveurs of times past as the inspiration behind La Martina Autumn/Winter 2016-17 collection

Taking a break to catch a fleeting glimpse of times past can reawaken inspiration more than one may think – as Diana Vreeland used to say ‘The eye has to travel’.

La Martina Autumn/Winter 16-17 collection draws inspiration from a journey across Latin lands, all the way to the sophisticated yet quietly lavish city of Paris, seen through the eyes of viveurs between the 1940’s and 50’s.

Salons, travel, car racing, irresistibly charming women, Polo tournaments and glamorous parties: this was the life of Porfirio Rubirosa, a true hedonist of bygone days, a Dominican diplomat, a Polo player and a playboy from the 50’s as well as the true driving force of La Martina new collection, intended as a tribute to the world of Polo on and off the field, its lifestyle and sophistication.

The collection takes cues from the glory of a former era and revolves around a young man and his fervent passion for Polo - with which La Martina has been most closely associated for over three decades - throughout his daily activities from day to evening: training and competing on the playing field, revelling in the Club House lifestyle and celebrating victory after a star-studded match.

Reading and interpreting, evoking and celebrating, unravelling and recreating, revisiting and evolving, always in keeping with the values of Polo, are the key words of the new AW16 collection. Its new take on iconic pieces featuring new details, timeless staples and classic textiles conveys a new flavour to a collection reminiscent of older days and sophisticated sportsmanship.
