Dhanuka Agritech Celebrates World Water Day

Organised under Public-Private Partnership with Water Technology Center, IARI

Mr. M. K. Dhanuka, Managing Director, Dhanuka Agritech limited, addressing the gathering

New Delhi, March 24, 2014: Growing population and urbanization, combined with fast increasing developmental needs, have put a tremendous pressure, on our water availability, especially for crop production.  With a population of over 1.21 billion people, which is about 18% of the world's population, with 4% of the total usable water and 2.3% of the arable land available in the world, we face multi-dimensional challenges which are going to be further compounded, due to the impending climate change. The agricultural sector is the biggest user of water, followed by the domestic sector and the industrial sector. Groundwater contributes to around 65% of the country’s total water demand, and plays an important role in shaping the nation’s economic and social development. Food, water and energy are important inputs and are more or less inseparable, as can be seen from recent events like droughts, oil-spills and increasing food prices.

Recognizing the need to save the diminishing water availability for agriculture, An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), and for the last 21 years, the UN World Water Day is celebrated on 22 March every year. This year the focus is on Water & Energy. It was in this background that the Water Technology Centre (WTC) of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi in partnership with Dhanuka Agritech Limited celebrated World Water Day by organizing a Conference for mass awareness of the stakeholders-farmers, scientists, NGOs

Delivering the Presidential Address, Dr R.B. Singh, Chancellor of Central Agricultural University said that agriculture technology is the driving force for achieving the much needed food and nutritional security for the burgeoning population.  The National Water Policy enunciated increasing water- use efficiency at least by 20% from the present around 35%.  This calls for several major policy decisions including rational water pricing, reducing water footprints, overarching national legal framework for water governance.    Water and energy being scarce resources, more focused efforts are needed so that the available technological interventions with the research institutions like Water Technology Centre of IARI, in these interrelated important sectors are brought to the knowledge of the farmers.  He called for creating model sites demonstrating optimization of water and energy at the farm level.  Definitely Public-Private partnership between WTC and Dhanuka Agritech Limited – the two leaders in their own areas of activity can play a synergistic role for speedy transfer of improved water and energy technological interventions to the stakeholders.

In his thought provoking inaugural address, Dr H. S. Gupta, Director, IARI said that population growth; urbanization and growing consumption of water and energy continue to disrupt our fragile ecosystem. Elaborating further, he added that today around 2.8 billion people live in areas of high water scarcity and 2.5 billion have no or unreliable access to electricity. By 2035, both global energy and water consumption are expected to further increase by 50% and 85% respectively and therefore by proper appreciation of inter-linkages between water and energy, we can evolve climate resilient and robust green economies.

Dr B. R. Sharma, Coordinator, International Water Management Institute, Sri Lanka –India programme, an internationally acclaimed Water Management Scientist in his keynote address has emphasized that large part of the food security achieved by India is water insecure and highly energy intensive as groundwater has emerged the main source of irrigation. He also mentioned some of the successful examples to alleviate food-energy nexus like Jyotirgram Yojana in Gujarat and its variations in other States, regulation of paddy transplanting in Punjab and Haryana, temporary power connections to farmers during rabi season , farm ponds in MP; changes in the Groundwater Regulation Act in West Bengal. He appreciated the efforts for raising awareness, devising technical innovations and contributing to policy dialogues to ensure water, energy and food security for all.

Dr Ravinder Kaur, Project Director of the WTC, IARI while setting the stage for the World Water Day celebrations said instead of looking at energy and water as independent social challenges impacting environment, the stakeholders, including farmers need to be trained and educated for saving water and in turn energy. Highlighting the importance of public private partnerships for creating open innovation systems, she hoped that today’s joint celebration of World Water Day would lead to the implementable ideas and solutions to a myriad problems dogging the Indian agriculture, especially the judicious use of our limited precious resource - The Water.

During the Conference technical lectures on various aspects of water & energy were delivered by eminent scientists from institutions like IWMI, CIMMYT, WTC. All the participants also took an oath to educate and train the stakeholders about Water & Energy. Over 150 participants including Scientists of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Subject Matter Specialists of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Officers of the Ministry of Agriculture/Water Resources, Progressive Farmers joined the celebrations

Capgemini Named as a 2014 World’s Most Ethical Company® by the Ethisphere Institute for the 2nd Year Running

New Delhi, March 21, 2014 – Capgemini, one of the world’s foremost providers of consulting, technology and outsourcing services, today announced that it has been recognized by the Ethisphere Institute, an independent center of research promoting best practices in corporate ethics and governance, as a 2014 World’s Most Ethical Company®.

This is the second time that Capgemini has been honored with this award, which recognizes organizations that continue to raise the bar on ethical leadership and corporate behavior. World’s Most Ethical Company honorees understand the correlation between ethics, reputation and daily interactions with their brand and that the award belongs as much to their associates, as it does to them. Capgemini is one of only six companies in the ‘business services’ industry honored this year.

Hervé Canneva, Ethics and Compliance Officer at Capgemini said “We are delighted to receive this award and to have our global ethical business practices recognized for a second year running. At Capgemini ethics, compliance and corporate social responsibility are a central part of both our Group policy and our client engagements. We recognize that ethics aren’t just a legal or reputational issue but instead are a key part of doing business in the 21st century.”

“The entire community of World’s Most Ethical Companies believe that customers, employees, investors and regulators place a high premium on trust and that ethics and good governance are key in earning it,” said Ethisphere’s Chief Executive Officer, Timothy Erblich. “Capgemini joins an exclusive community committed to driving performance through leading business practices. We congratulate everyone at Capgemini for this extraordinary achievement.”

The World's Most Ethical Company assessment is based upon the Ethisphere Institute’s Ethics Quotient™ framework. The Ethics Quotient framework has been developed over years of effort to provide a means to assess an organization’s performance in an objective, consistent and standardized way. The information collected provides a comprehensive sampling of definitive criteria of core competencies, rather than all aspects of corporate governance, risk, sustainability, compliance and ethics. The Ethics Quotient framework and methodology was determined, vetted and refined by the expert advice and insights gleaned from Ethisphere’s network of thought leaders and from the World’s Most Ethical Company Methodology Advisory Panel.

Scores are generated in five key categories: ethics and compliance program (25%), reputation, leadership and innovation (20%), governance (10%), corporate citizenship and responsibility (25%) and culture of ethics (20%).
The full list of the 2014 World's Most Ethical Companies can be found at
Capgemini’s Ethics & Compliance Program was launched in 2009 by the Group Board of Directors. This program is based on the culture of ethics which has been a core part of the Group since its inception in 1967 by Serge Kampf. As part of this program, Capgemini set up a network of Ethics and Compliance Officers and launched a Code of Business Ethics, an Anti-corruption Policy and a Competition Laws Policy to reassert its values in every country in which it operates. The program is supported by a significant global training program with dedicated online training sessions for each of the three policies and several face-to-face training options.

Chingles pulls up yet another prank, this time the ‘Tutti Frutti’ way

Launches TVC for their new Tutti-frutti flavour of Chingles, the refreshing mini gums

New Delhi, 19 March 2014: India’s  leading confectionary brand ‘Chingles’, from the house of Dharampal Satyapal Group today announced the launch of a campaign for the new ‘Tutti-frutti’ flavour from Chingles, the refreshing mini gums. The 30 sec long TVC is in line with the existing campaign of the brand and introduces the new flavour in a typical Chingles way - pulling a prank and asking “Aaj Lee Kya?”
DS Group marked its foray into the Rs. 1600 crore gum category in 2011 with mini gums called ‘CHINGLES’. The new flavor ‘Tutti Frutti’ is also available in Rs. 1 sachet, Rs. 5 zipper and Rs. 10 Fliptop packs, just like the other existing Nimbu, Saunf and Mint flavours of Pass-Pass Chingles.
Speaking on the occasion,  Mr. Rajeev Jain, Senior General Manager, Marketing, Dharampal Satyapal Ltd, said, “At DS Group, we are committed to creating new and refreshing products & variants to provide innovative tastes to our customers. Our new flavor Chingles ‘Tutti Frutti’ has been developed keeping the same in mind.”
He further added, “‘Chingles’, has always been positioned as a lively brand that aims to bring friends and family together by playing fun filled pranks on each other to enliven their lives. The new TVC for ‘Chingles Tutti Frutti’ is packed with the same joy that will bring smile on the viewer’s face.”
Positioned as an antidote to seriousness, the new campaign introduces a new character LiLee who turns the tables on the Lee brothers- UngLee, KhujLee and GoogLee, by playing a prank on them. Created by Dentsu Marcom, the commercial is set to foot-tapping music and pays a tribute to the golden age of retro in the 70’s which had heroines dressed up in dazzling costumes and living in lavish houses.
The film builds up the mystery of someone coming. LiLee the new character is shown singing ‘Dekho Woh Aagaya!’ and waiting for someone to arrive. This invites the curiosity and interest of the Lee brothers. They line up outside her door and try to peep in through the key hole one by one, wondering who is coming. LiLee punctures their curiosity by suddenly opening the door and telling the brothers that it is the new Chingles flavour, Tutti Frutti that has arrived, thus taking the trip of the Lee brothers.
Titus Upputuru, National Creative Director, Dentsu Marcom, and the director of the film said, “The idea was to announce a new flavour. However, since the new variant is a continuation of the legacy of the existing Chingles mini gums, we decided to do it the Chingles way-- pull a prank. It was fun shooting the film.”
