India All Set to Offer World Class Treatment to Patients of Urinary Incontinence

September 25, 2014, Mumbai:
To make Indian surgeons aware of the advanced treatment modalities for urinary incontinence and train them on InterStim technology, which modulates the sacral nerve and helps control the bladder, a workshop was organized organized by Medtronic in Mumbai at Jaslok Hospital wherein Dr.Sandeep Vasavada from Cleveland Clinic discussed various aspects of the procedure and demonstrated it on a live case.

Marked by the presence of Dr. Shailesh Raina, Director Urology, Neurology & Renal Transplantation, Jaslok Hospital, and Dr. Percy Chibber, Director - Minimally Invasive Urology, Jaslok Hospital, the workshop was attended by top urologists of India, who in turn would be able to offer the treatment to patients and help them live more normal and healthier lives.

Speaking at the workshop, Dr Vasavada said, “It is important for people to understand that the causes and manifestations of uncontrolled bladder could be different and hence its treatment. The types of UI, which are highly prevalent in India, are Urinary urge incontinence, Urgency-frequency and Urinary retention. The conventional treatment options used to address these conditions primarily include bladder training, fluid management, Kegel exercises and medications. However, not every patient is benefited from these options. As per the guidelines of the American Urology Association, such patients should be offered a second line of treatment, such as the Sacral Neuromodulation.”
