Matchbox’s ‘Lamb Of God’ Tribute Night on last Thursday

New Delhi:

It was nothing short of a pilgrimage for all heavy metal music fans in NCR at Matchbox Pub and Grub, Hauz Khas Village. Some of the best death metal bands in NCR congregated on the evening of June 27 at Matchbox to do a “Lamb of Gods” tribute night.  Lamb of Gods, a groove metal band is the flag bearer of the “New Wave Heavy American Metal Movement”.

The line-up of bands for the evening included Jehovah and Colossal Figures. Not just bands, but individual musicians, cutting across band lines assembled to jam for the evening. Some of these musicians were Swetank Jackson (Ex Gates Of Assault), Raghav Sehgal (1833 AD, Soul Inclination), Dhairya Sethi (Rabbit Is Rich), Johny Micheal (Spear Of Destiny) and Sudhanshu Shekhar (Spear Of Destiny) among many others. It’s not very often in NCR when such pure, unadulterated heavy metal music filled the air and it pulled sincere heavy metal fans from all over NCR.

Matchbox, where great ambience meets good food over refreshing music, the new restro bar is turning out to be the most happening joint in the capital. Regular gigs at the restro bar have become the talk of the town; as they offer an opportunity to budding musicians display their skills to discerning listeners. Join the music revolution ignited at Matchbox.

Matchbox Pub and Grub

A pub is not a pub and a grub is never complete if the taste and experience does not linger on. Matchbox Pub and Grub does all with their swashbuckling interior and exotic menu. Swashbuckling because it recreates the adventurous ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s with posters of Hollywood blockbusters likeTaxi Driver, Octopussy, Pulp Fiction and Psycho. The adventure continues with comic covers of Chacha Chaudhary, Tin Tin, Mandrake , Phantom etc. A visit to Matchbox is not just a regular visit to a restrobar, it’s a trip down memory lane— from a toy gun being the most prized possession to eagerly waiting for Deep Purple’s new cassette. Matchbox has amazing wall art depicting cult bands and rockstars   like Jim Morisson, Deep Purple, Elvis Presley and Beatles to name a few. The retro walk is complete with odd artefacts like a cassette player, Atari video game and post box.

The menu which again takes a cue from the dying newspaper culture has been done in a tabloid style. The menu is exotic because it has the best of everything from everywhere and gives the cultural background of the dish. The starters include Stuffed Mushroom with Herb and Cheese, Crumbed Fried Chicken Platter, Chicken Lollypop with Jack Daniel’s BBQ Sauce, Cottage Cheese Shashlik {Pesto / Persian}, Lebanese Style Rolls, Fish Fingers with Tartar Sauce, Persian Chicken Skewer with Pita, Butter Garlic tossed Mushrooms to name a few. The menu is sprinkled with interesting quotes like “Vulgarity is the garlic in the salad of life,” by Cyril Connolly. The salad platter comprises Classic Caesar’s Salad, Grilled Chicken Salad and Tuna Salad etc. There’s soup, noodle, burgers, pizzas, egg-centric dishes and much more. There is an Indian twist to the main course with Vindaloo, chicken, prawn, pork and mutton curry. To top it all there’s choicest of drinks, mocktails and cocktails. Matchbox is a heady cocktail of good food, spirits and last but not the least memories.
