Stops the clock at 25.62 sec to win Rink 3 (300m) race
Virar: Thane’s Nikhilesh Tabhane continued to prove that he is miles ahead of competition when he broke his own national record in Rink 3 time trial (300m) in Inline Category to clinch the gold medal in the Maharashtra State Roller Skating Championship at the Ameya Classic Club over the weekend.
The 22-year-old, who has been adopted by the Ameya Classic Club for further training, broke his own previous record by 00.20 sec to stop the close at 25.62 sec. Tabhane’s domination was so complete that the second best skater in this category – Vikram Ingle of Pune -- finished in 26.28 sec.
Having won three gold medals in the just concluded Thane District championship, Tabhane was confident of a strong showing on his home turf but surprised even himself with the timing. “I was confident of winning the gold. But I wasn’t at my 100 per cent as I am looking to peak at the senior nationals in December at this same venue. But I got a very good start and just kept on going,” he said after the race.
“My preparations for the nationals are going very well and I hope that I can break the 25.50 barrier next month,” Tabhane added.
Tournament organiser and director of Ameya Classic Club Grishma Patil was happy that the world class facility was providing talented athletes like Tabhane an opportunity to improve themselves. “We saw Nikhilesh performing at the senior nationals last year and felt that this boy could bring glory to India if he receives proper training and support. We therefore decided to sponsor him completely and shifted him to Virar as there is no better skating rink in India,” she said.
