Grand Opening Spectacular at Club Med Guilin, China


Celebrities, Club Med top management, government officials and global media gathered at Club Med Guilin from 23-25 September for a Grand Opening Spectacular. 

The two-day global event celebrated the successful launch of Club Med’s second resort in China as well as recently announced milestones regarding Club Med’s global development strategy that will see the French brand accelerate its growth in fast-developing travel markets such as China.

More than 300 international guests from Greater China, South East Asia & Pacific, Europe, South Africa, Israel, Brazil and Australia travelled to Guilin to attend the Grand Opening event. Mr Henri Giscard d'Estaing, Chairman & CEO of Club Med, was joined by honoured guest Mr GT Tsao, Owner of Club Med Guilin.

Under the theme ‘Where Nature Meets Art’, invited guests were treated to the unique Club Med spirit amidst the breathtaking natural splendour of Guilin. Guests enjoyed the opportunity to explore the 46-hectare resort and its Modern Sculpture Park, savour the signature restaurants, bars and even explore the limestone cave. 

They also took part in Club Med Guilin’s extensive array of cultural and sport activities, including a wine tasting class, guided bike rides in nature, and relaxing tai chi and yoga sessions. Excursions to explore more of the region included a trip to Li River and a performance of Impression Show Liu San Jie by film director Zhang Yimou.

Gala dinners, performances and parties were held each evening during the Grand Opening Spectacular. On 23 September, following an Inauguration Cocktail by the Main Pool and Gala Dinner at Atelier Restaurant, guests enjoyed a thrilling performance of ‘Shanghai Paris’ at the Theatre, specially conceptualised and choreographed by the international GO team of Club Med Guilin. After the performance, the festive mood continued with a White Sensation Party at Atelier Bar lasting well into the morning. The final night ended with a party and dancing by the Lakeside.

The expansive resort features 330 elegantly appointed guestrooms spread across two distinctive hotel wings. The Courtyard also comprises a dedicated Lounge, Tea House, Library and a Noodle Bar that is open for late afternoon snacks and after dinner until late for guests’ convenience.


The Atelier is the social heart of Club Med Guilin Resort. A former artists’ workshop, the building is imbued with creative passion and its unusual architectural spaces have been reimagined as unique venues to dine, socialise, meet and play. The Atelier comprises the following social areas: The Lounge is an invitingly theatrical space with a red and gold mosaic carpet representing an unfurling dragon. This leads through to the 626-seat Theatre complete with an indoor flying trapeze and a mezzanine lounge, which hosts Club Med evening shows and other gala events and meetings. The mixed-use Bar is a convivial spot for relaxing and meeting new friends, incorporating a giant central bar, private KTV and mahjong rooms, plus a dance floor. Colourful lanterns and oversized birdcages add to the cool circus vibe. The international buffet Restaurant allows guests to choose their dining ambience from different themed pavilions – the Painting Lounge, Folk Songs House and Sculpture Garden with an alfresco dining area.

Celebrating Guilin’s spectacular scenery and year-round pleasant climate, Club Med Guilin boasts a 1,800sqm Natural Pool with views of the Sculpture Park and karst mountains. This is the first Club Med Natural Pool both in China and at Club Med.


All kids are VIPs at Club Med and the designers have created a children’s wonderland inspired by different aspects of local Guilin culture in the four age-defined Kid’s Clubs. Thematic settings matched with age-appropriate activities include ‘Osmanthus Flowers’ (Petit Club 2-4 years), ‘Wildlife and Watercraft Along the Li River’ (Mini Club 4-7 years) and ‘Cormorant Fishing’ (Mini Club 8-10 years). The Mini Club also incorporates Club Med’s first-ever ‘0-depth’ Pool and Water Fountain Playground.

In true Club Med style, the family-friendly resort also offers holidays that are rich in adventure and communing with nature with an extensive array of activities designed for all ages and accompanied by an international GO team. Outdoor enthusiasts are spoilt for choice at Club Med Guilin. Adventurers can try their hand at mountain climbing on the famous karsts with 10 paths with three different levels available. 

Golf enthusiasts can practice at the resort’s ‘Pitch and putt’ or the beginners can join the beginner’s lesson with golf G.O by the practise net . Flying trapeze, archery, hiking, biking, yoga, tai chi, tennis, ping-pong and badminton are some of the other activities available to guests within the resort.

Guests looking to explore more of Guilin beyond the resort can take part in illuminating cultural experiences such as River Drifting on Li River and touring the surrounding villages by vintage motorcycle sidecar.
