New Academic Session commences at XLRI

 New batch of 420 aspiring achievers join the Institute


14th June 2013: XLRI Jamshedpur, the premier Private B-School in India, today announced commencement of the new academic session 2013-14. A total of 420 students drawn from the three flagship programmes: Business Management (BM – 180 students), Human Resource Management (HRM – 120 students) and one year General Management Programme(GMP – 120 students) joined the student fraternity of XLRI.

Two FPM (Fellow Programme in Management) and twenty EFPM (Executive Fellow Programme in Management)students have also enrolled themselves for the doctoral programme. The students of the new batch are from diverse academic streams as well as from varied professional backgrounds. A large gathering comprising students, parents, faculty and staff assembled to witness this solemn occasion.

Fr. E. Abraham, S.J. (Director), welcomed the students and impressed upon them the importance of “excellence” in every pursuit of academic life.  He said, “XLRI is a management school with a difference emphasizing not merely on knowledge dissemination, but gives equal importance to personal, spiritual and social development of students. Such an integral and value-based formation will help mold the future manager to be an innovative, competent, creative and empathetic leader”.

“As a thought leader, XLRI always strives to offer an education regimen which goes beyond a mere degree and aims at grooming students as responsible leaders for the society at large” he added.   
Fr. E. Abraham, S.J. (Director), also mentioned  “Keeping with the same tradition, XLRI Jamshedpur became   THE FIRST INDIAN B-SCHOOL TO COMMIT AND ENDORSE THE PRINCIPLES FOR RESPONSIBLE MANAGEMENT EDUCATION (PRME) OF UN GLOBAL COMPACT,” he added.
 “From the beginning, XLRI had a global outlook. International persons were the leaders and teachers.   International funds were sought to build XLRI and XLRI was the first to internationalize its programme”, he quoted.
The keynote speaker, Father Oswald Mascarenhas, SJ., PhD(Wharton) underscored the timeless relevance of   the Seven Capital/Deadly Sins propounded by Mahatma Gandhi almost 100 years ago. He urged the student community to avoid the Seven Deadly sins and strive to lead a principle-centered work and career life-journey. 

The fresher students will take part in a special Orientation Programme which has been drawn up to refresh their knowledge base before regular classes commence.    A unique feature in the first term will be the Village Exposure Programme as well as the outbound adventure Programme.   Both the programmes have been drawn up to sensitize the students of the tough life in rural India, whilst inculcating the paramount importance of team spirit, solidarity and empathy for the underprivileged.

XLRI announced the commencement of its new academic session at a solemn prayer service event organized at the campus for the new batch in presence of Director, Dean, as well members representing the Faculty, Staff of XLRI and Students with their parents. Readings from the Holy Quran, Bhagavad-Gita and Bible marked a special spiritual significance to the ceremony.

Prof. Pranabesh Ray (Dean Academics), XLRI introduced the new batch of students to the accomplished faculty members across different functional streams of management. Prof. Ray also highlighted XLRI’s continual efforts in molding responsible managers with ethical values and said, “. XLRI has always been at the forefront of driving innovation and furthering the horizon of modern management education system in India. Village trips, outbound programs and exposure to Indian Business History further exemplify XLRI’s innovativeness in sensitizing the future business leaders.”
