XLRI to hold the 57th Annual Convocation on 23rd March, 2013

·         Mr. Shiv Nadar, Founder & Chairman, HCL, Shiv Nadar Foundation to be conferred “Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial and Social Peace”

·        Mr. Pratip Chaudhuri, Chairman, SBI to deliver the convocation address

March 5th, 2013 – XLRI, the premier private B School in India is all set to hold the 57th Annual Convocation on 23rdMarch, 2013 at the campus in XLRI Tata AuditoriumJamshedpur.

This year, Mr. Shiv Nadar, Founder & Chairman, HCL, Shiv Nadar Foundation will be conferred the prestigious Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial and Social Peace at the event by Mr. H M Neruakar, Chairman, Board of Governors, XLRI and MD, Tata Steel.

Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial and Social Peace, instituted by XLRI in 1966, in honour of the Late Sir Jehangir Ghandy, former Chairman of the Board of Governors- XLRI is awarded to Heroic Leaders who have contributed towards the growth of their respective organizations and also impacted the growth of our nation in a significant way. The medal was instituted by XLRI in gratitude for Sir Jehangir Ghandy’s yeoman contribution to XLRI and the society at large. One of the oldest medals instituted by a higher education institution, the medal is awarded during XLRI’s Annual Convocation Ceremony to recognize outstanding contributions in the field of industrial and social peace in the country. Last year, the medal was conferred on Mr. N R Narayana Murthy, Chairman Emeritus and Chief Mentor, Infosys Technologies Ltd.

Speaking about this momentous occasion Fr. E Abraham S.J., Director of XLRI said, “Convocation is an important milestone event in the life of every student, faculty, and staff. It is the culmination of all the efforts put in by an individual during their time at the campus”.

He further added “This year we have decided to honour Mr. Shiv Nadar with the prestigious Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Social and Industrial Peace.”

Convocation ceremony will commence with Fr. E Abraham reading out the director’s report showcasing XLRI’s initiatives throughout the year followed by the presidential address to be delivered by Mr. H M Nerukar.

Mr. Pratip Chaudhuri, Chairman, State Bank of India will deliver the convocation address to the graduating students.

On this significant day, 236 students of Post Graduate Programmes in Management, 4 students of Fellow Program in Management from Jamshedpur Campus and 25 students from Ex-PGP course from Dubai Campus will receive their graduating certificates and medals.

At the ceremony, XLRI will also felicitate Mr. Rakesh Kapoor, CEO, Reckitt Benckiser with the ‘Distinguished Alumnus Award’.
