“Maharashtra economy despite the competition from other states in India is still the leading industrial State and receives the highest FDI (33%) of the total FDI in India” observed Shri Prithviraj Chavan, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra during his inaugural speech at Maharashtra Industry Summit organized by Maharashtra Industrial and Economic Development Association (MIEDA) and SME Chamber of India held on 8th February 2013 at Hotel Sofitel, Mumbai.
Talking on the State’s taxation heassured that the Government aims to completely abolish Octroi tax very soon to encourage in the investment climate in Maharashtra. Emphasizing the importance of developing adequate industrial infrastructure, the Government has started focusing on development of private ports.
He assured the industry of 24x7 power supply at affordable costs and the cross subsidy to the agriculture sector to be reduced. While talking on the New Industrial Policy, he mentioned that the policy will focus on overall development of backward regions of the State, attract more investments from private sector and generate 20 million jobs. On the lines of DMIC 3 more corridors are being planned: Mumbai-Nagpur-Aurangabad, Konkan area & Pune – Satara – Kolhapur – Bangalore, observed Shri Hon’ble Chief Minister. He concluded assuring that though the State industry is facing certain set-backs, Maharashtra economy will bounce back in the near future to retain the number one position.
Shri Chandrakant Salunkhe, in his welcome address observed the industrial and economical development of Maharashtra and highlighted the key areas that the State Government needs to address in order to build a sustainable State economy and compete successfully with Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka. He also highlighted the on economical statistics of Maharashtra, Gujarat, MP, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Bihar. Shri Venkat Chary, Chairman, Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd., gave an overview of state of Maharashtra economy and recommended Hon’ble Chief Minister, on the issues that the Government needs to concentrate to make Maharashtra a truly developed economy. Shri Nitin Shah, Chairman & Managing Director, Allied Digital Services Ltd. highlighted the opportunities in IT industry of Maharashtra and strategies for building a successful IT Business in State. Shri Sanjay Nirupam, Member of Parliament assured the industrialists that he would be the brand Ambassador of Maharashtra in Delhi. He commented that the major focus of the 12th plan is the infrastructure and inclusive growth.
Ms. Sulajja Firodia Motwani, Vice Chairperson, Kinetic Engineering Ltd. spoke on the challenges and opportunities in the automobile sector of the State. Shri A. Ramesh Kumar – MD and CEO, Asia Pragati Capfin Ltd. spoke on strategies that Maharashtra Government needs to adopt on to make Mumbai as an International Financial Centre. He commented that to make Mumbai as the international financial centre would require the availability of world class telecommunication infrastructure, high-level human capital specialized, State-of-the-art IT systems, world class financial products and services catering to the vast array of segments.
A special interactive session was organized where the participants got an opportunity to interact with Hon’ble CM. He assured the industrialists that all the necessary actions will be taken to further the development.
